Bill Skarsgård Confirmed as Lead in Kojima's PHYSINT
At the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast on September 17, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima revealed that Swedish actor and producer Bill Skarsgård will portray the lead role in PHYSINT, the upcoming action-espionage game from Kojima Productions. The announcement came just as the showcase appeared to be ending, with Kojima appearing personally to share the news and unveil a new poster featuring Skarsgård alongside co-star Charlee Fraser. The poster features a photo taken by Kojima himself.
"I'm delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård," Kojima said in a press release. "We are both long-time fans of each other's work, and we've decided to embark on this new adventure together. The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project."
PHYSINT marks the third original IP from Kojima Productions and has been described by Kojima as the culmination of his 40-year career as a video game creator. The game was first revealed during the studio's 10th anniversary event, "BEYOND THE STRAND," in Tokyo on September 23, 2025. Skarsgård joins an ensemble cast that includes Charlee Fraser, previous Kojima Productions collaborator Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe.
A Publishing Shift from PlayStation to Xbox
The announcement also confirmed a significant change: PHYSINT will now be published by Xbox, following an unexpected cancellation notice from Sony in June. The move strengthens the relationship between Kojima Productions and Xbox, which are already collaborating on the upcoming game OD - KNOCK. According to Kojima Productions, both companies are "excited about this collaboration and are looking forward to bringing PHYSINT to players worldwide."

Bill Skarsgård has become one of the most in-demand actors of his generation. He gained international recognition for his portrayal of Pennywise the Clown in Andy Muschietti's It (2017) and its sequel It: Chapter Two (2019). He recently starred in the HBO Max prequel series It: Welcome to Derry (2025), reprising the role of Pennywise and serving as an executive producer.
